As soon as you arrive in Leutasch, it becomes clear that this sun-kissed high plateau in the Austrian Alps really has what it takes to be a top cross-country skiing destination. The altitude of around 1,130 metres, snow from December until late spring and the connection to the Olympic region of Seefeld with its excellent infrastructure make cross-country skiing beginners, experts and even world champions happy.

Around 280 kilometres of trails in and around Leutasch offer everything a cross-country skier could wish for, from easy, classic trails to challenging skating trails for hardened sports professionals. With around 340 information boards, the extensive network of trails is excellently marked and, of course, the classic and skating tracks are groomed several times a day.

Individualists are also catered for: with around 15 kilometres of unprepared natural trails in the Gaistal valley, night trails in Seefeld-Mösern and Leutasch Alpenbad, and a dedicated dog trail in Seefeld. Even though not all of the cross-country trails are located directly in Leutasch, the regional buses, which are included in the one-day and multi-day cross-country ski tickets, take you to all starting and finishing points within a few minutes.

The ADAC Ski Atlas has awarded the Seefeld-Leutasch-Scharnitz Olympic region the silver medal among 200 cross-country skiing regions, and the area can boast numerous other awards. The Nordic World Ski Championships will also be returning in 2019. The excellent service inspires professionals and recreational cross-country skiers alike: with the online trail map and the current trail report, everyone is always on the right track.

As a guest at the BIO Hotel Leutascherhof, you are right in the middle of the sporting action, as the cross-country ski trail passes right by the hotel. ‘From the Leutascherhof, cross-country skiers can conquer the entire region,’ says Christian Wandl, ‘and the trail pass is included in the price for stays of one week or more.’ Great for families: children and young people up to their 16th birthday can use all trails free of charge.

The Leutascherhof: specialist for cross-country skiing holidays

‘Cross-country skiing has been our focus for several years,’ reports Christian Wandl. His business has been a member of the Cross Country Ski Holidays association since 2016 and has been awarded the Nordic Elite rating. This means that cross-country skiers will find everything they could possibly want for their favourite sport at the hotel: from guided cross-country skiing tours and waxing courses to targeted sports nutrition.

Biathletes are also in exactly the right place in Leutasch. In Seefeld, just seven kilometres from the Leutascherhof, one of Europe's most modern biathlon facilities has been waiting for professionals and guests since 2010. They can take on the sporting challenges of running and shooting in courses run by Martin Tauber's Cross Country Academy.
